The foundation stone for this extremely impressive building was laid as early as 1405. The desire was for a representative house for the citizens, a house that would reflect the rising influence and growing importance of the Hanseatic city. Originally built in the Gothic style, the town hall was renovated in the early 17th century - this is how the façade in the Weser Renaissance style that is still visible today was created. The ensemble is still impressive today and is considered a unique example of this type of architecture in the world. The impressive architecture and the market square surrounding it were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004. The town hall contains the Ratskeller, which is considered to be one of the oldest restaurants in Germany. German wines have been stored and sold there since 1405 - to this day. A visit is definitely worth it.

Böttcherstrasse is only around 110 metres long and is located in the middle of Bremen's old town. And yet it is a real highlight: Most of the houses were built between 1922 and 1931 and were commissioned by a wealthy Bremen coffee merchant. The architects Eduard Scotland and Alfred Runge and the sculptor Bernhard Hoetger created an ensemble that is unique in the world and a prime example of expressionist architecture. The street is home to museums, restaurants and many small shops and is fascinating in its liveliness. Schlachte was once an inland port in Bremen, which existed 800 years ago. Even then, inns lined up directly on the banks of the Weser. During the summer months, it is a vibrant place. Summer and beer gardens, inns, cabaret and music enchant and captivate visitors. Here you are not just there, but right in the middle of it.
